Amazing what illustrators can do, on first glance, I wouldn’t expect these “photographs” to be fake. Some of them look even better than 3d generated character art. You’ll find a nice collection of vector drawn illustrations from different artists all over the globe
Loads of Japanese Games concept art here, from Metal Gear Solid to Final Fantasy! A great resource. There’s also an Artist profile section with names like Tetsuya Nomura (the character designer for the upcoming Final Fantasy 13) and Yoshitaka Amano.
